Capture, Editing and Post Production

There are a large array of FOSS video capture, editing and post-production tools out there. Most of them still need quite a bit of work howeber HyperEngine-AV is one programme that is certainly up to the task. For Windows the programmes require you to use a seperate programme to import your video onto your computer. For Windows and Mac there are however other non-FOSS yet free stable editing programmes such as iMovie and Windows media maker. Editing video on Linux is still quite a difficult process unfortunately.

VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility. It lacks the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images.
